I've played with some GD functions here. On the home page there are 3 images in flash with some text over them, well the background colour for each of those texts is calculated from colour of the image behind them. Basically, when user uploads an image for this part of a page in CMS I go and take a look at every pixel and calculate average values of RGB.

That’s not perfect either and I tried to post further details but this site wouldn’t allow me.
